911 Tips

The City of Blue Island E-911 Communications dispatches over 100,000 calls for service annually. The majority of these calls for service are for emergency assistance.

In addition to handling the 911- telephone caller, the Telecommunicator is also responsible for monitoring all public safety “First Responders”, as they respond to these emergency calls. You can be of great assistance to the operator by remaining calm, and answering all the questions that the operator asks about your emergency. The questions may seem irrelevant to your situation however, it is very important to get as much information as quickly as possible to assist the responding public safety officers.

The most important tip that we can offer to you is, to know your exact location. Today many of our calls come from wireless cell phones. If you do not know your location, find a landmark or a cross street to give to the operator.
Having the exact location for the operator makes the entire process much smoother, and allows us to get you the right assistance faster.

Teach your children how to use the telephone and that 911 is used only for emergencies!
